November 2006
Rob has his regular bi-monthly gig at the Markham
Hilton Suites Hotel on Thurs. Nov. 16. What makes it particularly special is that Rob will be accompanied by one of Canada's best jazz pianists, Dave Restivo. Vocalist, Sophia Perlman will also be joining them. Hope to see you there!

Rob has been working part-time after school and between gigs at the new Long and McQuade store in Markham. Stop by and say hi. Rob really loves this job!!!!

Rob did a studio session for Liberty Silver. His flute playing is featured on one of the tunes on her new Christmas album, coming to stores this month.

Download a Quintessential Boys track here.
The song is an original and is called Holy Montuno.

It's been a while since we've updated this section. Rob got the all clear as far as his broken wrist is concerned. Everything is healed and back to normal. Rob didn't miss a gig even though he had a cast on his right arm for 5 months.

October 2006
The new group that Rob is a part of has decided on a name. It is Quintessential Boys. Watch for the new cd, Under Age and website coming soon.

Rob has been working with some other really talented teens and they have just finished recording an album. This new teen jazz group has yet to be named, and features Quincy Bullen on piano, Omar Gittens on drums, Lucian Gray on bass guitar and Rob on sax and flute. Their debut album is called Under Age. It should be out soon.

September 2006

Rob finally had the cast taken off his wrist after 5 months. He will get the all clear (hopefully) in about 4 weeks. In the meantime he has been told no skateboarding or trick biking!!.

We thought that Rob had his busiest week in August, but we were wrong, it looks like the first week in Sept. will beat the record. The day after returning from a week at National Music Camp, Rob played at Unionville's Labour Day Festival with Maya Chilton, Sean Nimmons and Colin Kingsmore. On Wed. Rob is at Sassafraz with Maya, Thurs. at the Hilton with Sophia Perlman, Sat. at the Long and McQuade opening, then a private gig in the evening with Lucian Gray. On Sunday he is at the Olden Days Festival in Markham and in the evening Rob is a guest of Eddie Bullen's on a smooth jazz cruise. Other guests include, Quincy Bullen, Liberty Silver and Demo Cates.

Rob starts grade twelve.

August 2006

Rob starts has busiest week ever. Tues at the Hilton, tonight Sassafraz, tomorrow and Sunday, Wasaga Beach, and then off to NMC (National Music Camp). Rob's next gig is Labour Day at Unionville's Main Street.

The Markham Jazz Festival concert was a big success. The bandstand had the biggest audience in it's history!

July 2006
The Beaches Jazz Festival weekend is over. The three-night streetfest was a great success. Rob played in front of Starbucks to huge crowds. Many people came to see him for the third year in a row! Rob really enjoyed playing with his brother Scott, Mark Hererra, Lucian Grey and of course our mainstay drummer Mike Barrington. Sophia Perlman dropped by to sing a couple of tunes on Saturday night! Lots of people bought Rob's new cd's, thanks. If anyone has any comments about the new cd's, we'd love to hear from you. Please send us an email at info@robchristianjazz.ca. Many, many thanks to Lido Chilelli, the producer of the festival, and to Bill King the artistic director, for having us back for the third year in a row. It really is the highlight of the year for Rob.

Today marks the beginning of the Beaches Jazz Festival weekend. Rob will be performing in front of Starbuck's at 2253 Queen St. East (at Hammersmith). Rob will be joined by pianists Scott Christian (Thurs. and Sat.) and Mark Hererra (Friday), drummer Mike Barrington, and amazing 15 year old bassist, Lucian Gray. There will be other surprise guests popping in from time to time. Everyone should head down to Queen St. East Thurs. Friday and Sat. evening for the best street party in Toronto.

The day before the Beaches Jazz Festival, Rob had to have his right hand casted again. It seems that the bone in his wrist didn't heal the way it was supposed to so the doctor had another cast put on Rob's hand. So... no flute playing again, for a while. But Rob will take his tenor, alto and soprano to Beaches.

Rob's Concert at the Unionville Bandstand on Saturday was awesome. He had some amazing special guests. The crowd was huge. Special thanks to all the musicians who came out to make the evening some of the best jazz around. Thanks to: Sophia Perlman (vocals), Eddie Bullen (piano), Quincy Bullen (piano), Lee Wallace (guitar), Raz Hilland (trumpet), Mark Hererra (piano), Colin Kingsmore (drums), Leon Racine (bass guitar), Ron Christian (sound).

Rob's Trio was performing on St. Clair West, near Dufferin at the Corsa Italia Festival, Sunday July 9 when the Italians won the world cup! What a party!!! It was so much fun. Congrats to all! We've never seen so many people partying all at once. It was an exciting evening.

The Beaches Internation Jazz Festival Press Conference was a great gig. It was a wonderful opportunity for Rob. He and his trio were on tv and in the paper as a result.

June 2006
Rob's Jazz Combo has been asked to perform for the Press Conference/Launch of the Beaches International Jazz Festival and Parti Gras at the Distillery District at the Balmy Beach Club in July. This is an invitation only press event. It is a great honour and opportunity for Rob. Many thanks to the organizers.

On both CD's, Rob plays, alto, tenor, and soprano and of course, flute. (For more information see the cd ordering page.)

Oh yes, I guess we should mention that on April 19, Rob broke his wrist while riding his bike. But, in true Rob Christian fashion he has found a way to continue to perform. The following Saturday he played the Absolute Lounge at the Hilton and was there again the next Tuesday as a guest of June Garber. Rob will be performing at all his upcoming gigs with his new black cast. No substitutions or cancellations.

Rob was awarded an International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE) scholarship. The funds will be used for Rob to continue to pursue his jazz education.

There will be lots of news coming up in the next few days. So watch this space. In the meantime, we have posted new versions of Wobble and Summertime and a brand new, Scott Christian composed tune, RJ Blues on the media Page. These songs will be on Rob's new CD's.

Rob has finished recording his CD's. All that is left to do is the mixing, mastering, and manufacturing. That's not a lot! The recording sessions went well, the CDs are going to be his best yet. Stay tuned for information about an upcoming Cd Release Party!

February 2006

Work has finally started on Rob's new cd. It should be out in late April. Rob has been fortunate enough to get Juno award winning pianist, composer and arranger, Eddie Bullen to help work on the cd. The cd will be a collection of some of Rob's favourite jazz tunes. Rob will feature alto, tenor, soprano and flute on the still untitled album.

For all the Jazz Flute fans out there, we'd like to recommend Bill McBirnie's fantastic new cd, Paco Paco with Bernie Senensky. Also, Bill McBirnie has been nominated in two categories for a National Jazz Award. Please take the time to vote.

Hi Everyone, 2005 was a great year for Rob. He performed at over 50 gigs throughout the year! We are really looking forward to 2006.

Happy New Year everyone! We hope everyone enjoyed the holiday season. Rob was very busy in Dec. playing mostly corporate and private gigs. The highlight of December was when Rob attended jazz diva June Garber's cd release party at the Montreal Bistro. He was called onto the stage to play the flute with her and the fantastic musicians accompanying her, including Bill King and Alex Dean. This was a high point for Rob. Thanks to the wonderful June Garber!!!
